There is too much that is awesome about this duo to not post this photo here. Magic Johnson and Dolph Lundgren represent so much that is the 1980s in entertainment. Of course, without Larry Bird and Sylvester Stallone respectively, neither one is lost, but their legend is diminished greatly. It is that sort of rivalry that we love in our entertainment. We need a protagonist and an antagonist. Perhaps that is what is lacking in the NBA today — whilst Kobe Bryant and LeBron James are widely regarded as the top two players in the game, they have yet to form any meaningful rivalry with a back-story of note.

We await the genesis of the next big rivalry, whether it be Carmelo Anthony/Dwyane Wade vs LeBron or perhaps the new Tyreke Evans vs Brandon Jennings.

Back to Lundgren. Most people know that he was born in Sweden. Almost everyone knows that he is a martial arts expert. However it has long interested me that most people are unaware of how bright he is. Despite the stereotypical appearance, he is no big loafing jock. This from his wikipedia entry:

He graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology. He has a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney (1982). He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983, but he quit after two weeks to pursue acting.[6] He speaks more than five languages: Swedish, English, German, French, Spanish, some Japanese, and some Italian.[4]

He sounds like the perfect candidate for chess boxing.

UPDATE: Now you simply MUST check out Dolph in this video (via Jared Wade of Both Teams Played Hard etc). Words can not describe how awesome it is. Nor can they describe how much he looks like Jonas Jerebko in ten years.
