HomicideNever one to avoid controversy, Townsville Crocodiles’ Corey “Homicide” Williams has thrown fuel onto the Cairns Taipans’ fire ahead of their clash on Wednesday, saying that he doesn’t know who his namesake, Kerry Williams is. The NBL season has been an extremely tight one, with seven out of eight teams currently sitting on six or seven wins.

Townsville, who will host this matchup, sit in sixth place with a 7-7 record. Meanwhile the Taipans are one spot behind them at 6-9, so clearly every game is vital. Last time around when these two teams met, Homicide put up 21 points in 26 minutes, leading the Crocs to an 85-70 win in Cairns. Michael Cedar also knocked in 4/7 from long range for his 20 points. So clearly the Taipans will have a heavy task ahead of them if they want to move ahead of their FNQ rivals on the ladder.

The Taipans will be looking for big games from Julien Mills, Rich Melzer and Dusty Rychart to come away with an unexpected win. Last week when Cairns was thrashed by New Zealand, the only one of that trio to come through with the goods with Melzer, who put up 19 points and five rebounds, whilst Rychart and Mills combined for 5/14 from the field.
