The NBL has announced that Townsville Crocodiles head coach Trevor Gleeson will face the NBL Tribunal over an incident that occurred in the second quarter of the team’s Sunday night match against the Perth Wildcats. Gleeson made contact with a referee, which led to him being ejected from the game. 

One of the three referees at the game filed an official report on the incident following the match. Under NBL Rules, any report by a game official is automatically referred to the NBL Tribunal.

Gleeson will face two charges as a result – “Grabbing/Pushing/Mishandling Referee/Game Official” and “Unsportsmanlike Behaviour”.

Gleeson now has until 5:00PM AEDT on Tuesday 7 December to respond to the charges and nominate if he wishes them to be heard by telephone or in a formal Tribunal hearing.

Looking at video of the incident, it appears that Gleeson has no case to answer to, in what was clearly an incident of accidental contact whilst remonstrating with the official. Look for yourself and decide…
