Today's Warnings

A collection of NBA and Australian basketball links to get your day going.

  • Al Ramsay, fine servant to the game of basketball in Australia for 50 years, is being honoured with induction into the FIBA Hall of Fame.
  • John Rillie will be twittering/tweeting from the Top End Challenge, the NBL’s pre-season tournament from Thursday. Follow him on Twitter.
  • Blazersedge: one of the finest posts you will ever find on the internet, regarding X’s and O’s. User iverigma2 has come up with the most detailed description of the Portland Trail Blazers’ plays, this side of Nate McMillan’s playbook. Read it — it may take you a few sittings though. I’ve only got part way through so far and am loving it.
  • Trivia quiz: see how quickly you can name all 30 NBA teams from memory. It took me close to three minutes, as my 1995ized brain had forgotten Chris Paul’s team for a good minute there… that’s the problem with having memorised the list of NBA teams in alphabetical order, back in high school. According to the results, about 22% of people get all 30 teams out in the 6min time limit. The majority (33%) fall into the 26-29 band.
  • China.org.cn: “Axe poised over basketball coach.” It sounds like China’s head coach might be about to lose his job after poor performances by the national team. Guess who is sitting there in the wings ready to snap up the job? Brian Goorjian, recently departed coach of the Australian Boomers and now Assistant Coach for the Chinese team. China could do much worse than to move Goorj up into the top role.

  • In case you missed it as well: earlier today I posted this argument that John Stockton deserved to win an MVP at some point in his career. Many will disagree, but I’d love to know what their valid reasons are.
