The mascot for the 2010 FIBA World Championships, to be hosted by Turkey, has been unleashed. And he could not make me happier. Why does he make me happy? Let me count the ways:
- The creature and the video clip (below) totally look like a Japanese production out of the middle of Tokyo’s Harajuku district.
- The video is shot in Istanbul, reminding me of how awesome a city it is.
- The accompanying instrumental music totally sounds like it has been ripped out of an 80’s film clip.
- It reminds me that the World Championships, the greatest event in world basketball, are indeed upon us this year.
Without further ado, here’s the clip. Notice that the mascot has a moon-shaped head, reminiscent of Turkey’s crescent-moon flag/national emblem. It has no connection to the moon from The Mighty Boosh.
