In what will be disappointing, but not entirely surprising news to anyone who follows the NBA, the Portland Trail Blazers today announce that Greg Oden will miss the remainder of the 2010-11 NBA season. He will have microfracture surgery performed on his troublesome left knee on Friday — he previously had the same procedure done on his right knee in 2007.

This is obviously terrible news for the big man, who has seen his entire, short NBA career ravaged by injuries, making him a punchline in many a basketball fans’ jokes. We again wait for another season to see Oden capitalise on his vast potential as a game-changing centre. The news comes in the same week as speculation runs rampant regarding Brandon Roy‘s basketball future, after his own knee problems.
