Yao reacts to news that T-Mac is out for the season
Tracy McGrady is out again, this time it appears that he is done for the season. Houston Rockets fans must be used to this by now. It would appear that another chance to challenge for a title has gone begging.
According to media reports originating at ESPN, T-Mac will undergo microfracture surgery on his left knee. This has not been confirmed by the team as yet.
A Stern Warning Forum user, Fat Cobra must be somewhat smug after trading McGrady earlier this season in our Fantasy league. That said, he did pick up Andrew Bynum in the transaction — another guy who has seen a bit of medical attention lately.
The Rockets are looking to make a deal before the trade deadline, with initial speculation involving McGrady getting dealt for his cousin, Vince Carter. However team owner Leslie Alexander says he is against the idea of trading T-Mac.
“I don’t think we’re going to part ways with Tracy,” said Alexander. “Everybody wants us to. We acquired a great superstar and everybody wants us to trade the great superstar. You don’t get superstars that often.
“Daryl (Morey, the Rockets general manager) and I were talking this morning. We both discussed how great Tracy is in the playoffs. There’s very few people who have the ability to step up their games in the playoffs and he does. So we’re not looking to run away from Tracy.”
The Rockets did manage an easy victory over the New Jersey Nets last night without the assistance of McGrady. Perhaps this is opportunity to give more time to Ron Artest, who oddly has not been a regular starter this season for the Rockets.
Yet another recovery looms for the talented, yet oft-injured McGrady. Will he ever get the Rockets over the hump whilst he is paired with Yao Ming? Some are even (jokingly?) speculating about this being the end of his career. Not just yet.
