Watching Andrea Bargnani and Dirk Nowitzki going at it tonight got me thinking about the trend for great big men shooters in the NBA of late. So with a bit of help from the excellent HoopData, I pulled out the top big men three point shooters so far in 2009-10. To be on this list, you had to be primarily a power forward or centre and you had to be 6’10” or over.
These stats are threes made per 40 minutes and for all players with greater than 10mpg.
Player Name | 3PM | Height |
Ryan Anderson | 3.7 | 6’10” |
Matt Bonner | 3.4 | 6’10” |
Channing Frye | 3.1 | 6’11” |
Rashard Lewis | 3.0 | 6’10” |
Rasheed Wallace | 2.6 | 6’11” |
Troy Murphy | 2.4 | 6’11” |
Tim Thomas | 2.3 | 6’10” |
Ersan Ilyasova | 2.1 | 6’10” |
Andrea Bargnani | 1.9 | 7’0″ |
Oh, and Dirk? Well he only hits 0.7 threes per 40 min, but he takes an impressive amount from 16-23 feet for a scorer of his magnitude and height. Dirk attempts 42% of his total shots from 16-23 feet and a further 23% from 10-15 feet. Scoring consistently over 25ppg from that range is hard work.
