Patty Mills shone in the Portland Trail Blazers‘ first game of Summer League 2010, as he approached a triple-double, with 12 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds, 1 steal and only 2 turnovers in 26 minutes (+20). The Blazers defeated the Houston Rockets 84-67, in what appeared to be that rare example of a Summer League squad with chemistry.

It has become apparent that Mills will have to battle 2010 Draft Pick Armon Johnson for a spot on the Blazers roster this season and effectively, a contract. The “victor” in that battle would fill the role of third point guard on the roster. Mills did not disappoint in this game, as he showed his blinding speed, coupled with an increased level of composure, fantastic distribution skills and a little touch of scoring. The Aussie speedster hit 5/10 from the field, including two three-point baskets, as he mixed up his impressive passing game.

Here is video footage of virtually every basket scored by the Blazers during the game:

Here is what Patty had to say after the game — his usual jovial self:

Fellow Aussie, Luke Schenscher did not see any time in this game.

Joe Freeman of the Oregonian had this to say about the match, complimenting Mills’ performance:
