This is just a great photo in general (look at the anticipation on the faces of all present); and I had to include it, as it had our boy Patty Mills present (pic Bruce Ely via Oregon Live).
But wait, there’s more! Patty, in true Aussie style, is bringing a bit of the shenanigans — the tomfoolery, the larrikinism — to Portland. And I love it… now, brace yourself for this photo, which Patty posted on twitter:
So, What The Fred Hoiberg is this all about? The story goes that Patty’s Blazers teammates refer to him as Patty Cakes (would love to hear the story on where that came from, if anywhere), as he has been good enough to share on his now-very-active twitter account. And apparently the Blazers are soon to release the new series “Patty Cakes On the Streets” (as Patty tweeted). He then posted the picture above, with the following: “There are also special guest appearances! Here is a sneak peak of massive Blazer fan “Pat Stacks” who took the streets of downtown Portland to meet the local fans http://yfrog.com/6r7ywj“.
This reminds me somewhat of what our Footy Shows (both AFL and NRL) do here in Australia. We love to fool around and see our stars hit the streets and take on the roles of characters. I guess it’s done in a more exaggerated way than what you’d see in the States, USA readers.
Follow Patty on twitter here: @Patty_Mills. And look out for Patty Cakes!
Meanwhile, whilst he was fortunate enough to make his way onto the Blazers 15-man roster after putting in the hard yards in training camp (even turning up uncontracted when he had offers elsewhere), Mills has yet to get any minutes in the 2010-11 NBA season. He has been on the bench though, in the 12-man roster, which is great news. And, as things seem to go in Portland, injuries are once again taking their toll this season. Whilst you never like to see another man’s misfortune, the sudden, unfortunate retirement of Fabricio Oberto (recurring heart issues) and the season-ending injury to Elliot Williams in training mean that Mills’ roster spot and potential minutes are all the more secure at the moment. Hopefully we will see Mills on the court at some point this season, in what is still a very packed Portland backcourt.
