Oden dunkThis site has not seen any activity for the past few days, as I took a short break. That break became even longer as the unseemly injury to Greg Oden occurred, taking the wind out of my sails.

To say that the event devastated me would be an understatement. How could such a thing happen to such a fine young man who was doing so well, returning from already unfortunate injuries over the past two years? Rather than react immediately, it was all I could do to sit back and gather my thoughts, as the down mood on how the Blazers’ season is unfolding consumed me.

Here are a few lines on the situation.

An ode on devastation

Brooks comes in flying
Challenged by the big guy
Then Oden is down crying
Why, oh why?

The whole crowd is dying
He has broken his patella
The misfortune is mystifying
I really feel for the poor fella

Batum, then Outlaw
Fernandez and now Oden
We can’t take any more
Not all over again

Even Nate is out
Where are we to look?
With the continuing drought
Soon we’ll be starting a rook

But fear ye not, boy
The Blazers have fine leaders
There is always Roy
And also LaMarcus, readers
