NBA Jam is back!

In an announcement that makes every 30-year-old boy man wet his pants with glee, NBA Jam is now officially on the comeback trail and has its own website up and running by EA Sports. Rumours have been floating around basketball and gaming circles for a little while now, ever since EA bought out the rights to NBA Jam from Activision, the original creators of the Boom-Shaka-laka that shook gaming arcades across the globe. It’s worth noting though, that you’ll need a wii (initially) to play the re-release.

As announced by EA today: “NBA JAM is one of the most recognizable franchises in videogame history,” said Peter Moore, President, EA SPORTS. “Diehard fans of the original game have been asking for a remake for more than a decade. We’re very excited to give them their wish this year with the return of this iconic franchise.”

What is even better about this iteration of the game is, you can vote for who will be the three players allocated to each roster. So no more complaining about the dubious roster selections of gaming executives! In a move reminiscent of a JE Skeets production of olde, the votes available on the site this week are for the Kings, Clips and Thunder:

Choose the 3 players you’d most like to see in NBA JAM from the Sacramento Kings:

  • Kevin Martin
  • Tyreke Evans
  • Jason Thompson
  • Spencer Hawes
  • Beno Udrih
  • Andres Nocioni

Choose the 3 players you’d most like to see in NBA JAM from the Los Angeles Clippers:

  • Baron Davis
  • Blake Griffin
  • Al Thornton
  • Chris Kaman
  • Eric Gordon
  • Marcus Camby

Choose the 3 players you’d most like to see in NBA JAM from the Oklahoma City Thunder

  • Kevin Durant
  • Jeff Green
  • Russell Westbrook
  • Thabo Sefolosha
  • Nenad Krstic
  • James Harden

Sergio Rodriguez fans lose out!! All of the above are pretty solid nominees for the short-lists, so not too many will be disappointed with the choices on offer. Let’s just hope that all of the top dunkers will be available when we get to the likes of say Tyrus Thomas in Chicago and JaVale McGee in Washington.

I know it’s Winter in the northern hemisphere, but HE’S HEATING UP!!!
