FIBA have just released the beautifully created official promotional campaign video for the 2010 World Championships in Turkey. The one minute feature, of which there will be shorter 30 second spots, highlights Kobe Bryant (USA), Hedo Turkoglu (Turkey), Anderson Varejao (Brazil), Andrew Bogut (Australia), Tony Parker (France), Joel Anthony (Canada), Pau Gasol (Spain), Luis Scola (Argentina), Carlos Arroyo (Puerto Rico) and Ersan Ilyasova (Turkey).
The players are portrayed as giants, wandering through the fabled streets of Istanbul and around it’s amazing landmarks such as the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace. “Giant Get Together.”
Some things worth noting: (1) There was no Barkleyesque Godzilla roaming the streets to fight the players; (2) Obviously Turkey had two representatives, being the home country; (3) All of the players featured are NBA players, in a clear attempt to appeal to that demographic, but missing some countries; (4) LeBron James recently said that his likelihood of playing in the World Champs is diminished by his “other obligations” this Summer — so it was good that Kobe was selected rather than him.
The other shorter versions of the “Giant Get Together” commercials are as follows:
