Doubting Thomas: a term that has a common meaning in the English language. It refers to someone who doubts the veracity of something or someone, dating back to Thomas who doubted Jesus in the Bible. It has a double-meaning when it comes to NBA talk, with reference to the hoards that have doubted the head office ability of Isiah Thomas.
NBA Mate’s Rob D has come up with a novel concept: a Doubting Thomas Award for the NBA. He has brought together a fine host of bloggers to put forward their nominations for the award and we will follow them on a monthly basis as the season goes on, to determine which doubted player truely has graduated to legitimate NBA player.
Marco Belinelli is the fine young individual that I am putting forward. Here’s what I had to say on the matter over at NBA Mate:
“Marco Belinelli è il più grande giocatore di basket in Italia!” Translated: Marco Belinelli is the greatest basketball player in all of Italy! Whilst it’s not entirely true… or even close (with Andrea Bargnani currently holding that mantel) but he has the ability to be that player. All you need to do is remember back to the 2007 Summer League, where Belinelli introduced himself in a blaze of glory, with 37 points, ultimately going on to average 22.8ppg in SL play. However he didn’t get a legit run in Golden State during the regular season and after two part-seasons in the Bay Area, was traded to Toronto in the Summer of 2009. This is his season to prove himself as a real NBA commodity!
