If you are a Nokia mobile phone user, perhaps you sometimes have felt left out in recent times when it comes to what you can do with your phone. In particular the advent of the concept of “apps” on mobile phones has changed the way many people look at the device in their pocket. Well, Nokia is trying to change that perception with the introduction of increasingly more apps on their Ovi Store (think the equivalent of Apple’s App Store).
One such very important addition from the perspective of visitors to this site is the new “Bball” App. With most domestic basketball competitions in their off-season, or close to the end of play in the case of the NBA, the big up-coming item on the basketball calendar is the FIBA World Championships, to be held in Turkey from August 28 to 12 September.
Make no mistake, the World Championships are THE biggest event in basketball every four years. Across the world, there is no more valued tournament — despite the fact that many in the United States misconstrue an Olympic gold medal as the key accolade in all of basketball. All of the international basketball programs are working their way solidly to Turkey 2010.
Now, back to the Nokia Bball App. In the lead-up to the World Championships, this is definitely worth a free download, if you have a touch-enabled Nokia phone. Currently the app serves up FIBA news as it happens and access to a range of videos (highlights and interviews). When Turkey 2010 tips off, the app will have a whole range of content including game scores, match reports and more related to the Championships.
Definitely worth a free download.
