The Allen Iverson in Memphis experiment is over. Sadly, the only impression that the Answer made in Memphis was one of distraction and negativity. We know he could have done so much more for the team, if only he’s been able to drop his ego and accept a bench role — but that’s not the AI we know and the Grizz should have known better.

According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal:

The Grizzlies and Allen Iverson have agreed to terminate the contract he signed with the team and he will be waived in the next day or two, according to sources close to the situation.

The move comes hours after Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley said that he wanted an answer from Iverson about his playing future with the team in the next few days.

No word as yet on whether Iverson will ink a deal elsewhere, but you’d think most teams would reticent to take on the baggage that comes with the diminuitive scorer.
