Eight games into the 2010/11 NBL season, the Adelaide 36ers have made the decision to part ways with import guard Craig Winder.

Winder, who came to Australia with NBA D-League experience, is definitely not the first import to be cut from an NBL squad this season. He has averaged 10.1ppg, 4.1rpg and 2.8apg in his eight games, shooting a dangerously skinny 35.2% from the field and failing to make sufficient impact in a league that has seen the likes of Gary Ervin (Wollongong Hawks) and Ayinde Ubaka (Cairns Taipans) prove how important quality American lead guards can be. The guard’s best performance arguably came against the Sydney Kings on 6 November, when he went for 15 points and 6 rebounds — season-highs that won’t leave anyone’s mouth open.

A press release from the 36ers indicated, “Winder brought great athletic prowess, an outstanding work ethic and was a tremendous team mate in his time with the club.

The 36ers have short listed a group of point guards to run the team for the remainder of the season. The necessary due dilligence on each candidate will be carried out to ensure the best available person is chosen.

The 36ers next face the league leading Wollongong Hawks on Friday night. Any new player is unlikely to be available for this game at this time.
