Watching Andrea Bargnani and Dirk Nowitzki going at it tonight got me thinking about the trend for great big men shooters in the NBA of late. So with a bit of help from the excellent HoopData, I pulled out the top big men three point shooters so far in 2009-10. To be on this list, you had to be primarily a power forward or centre and you had to be 6’10” or over.

These stats are threes made per 40 minutes and for all players with greater than 10mpg.

Player Name 3PM Height
Ryan Anderson 3.7 6’10”
Matt Bonner 3.4 6’10”
Channing Frye 3.1 6’11”
Rashard Lewis 3.0 6’10”
Rasheed Wallace 2.6 6’11”
Troy Murphy 2.4 6’11”
Tim Thomas 2.3 6’10”
Ersan Ilyasova 2.1 6’10”
Andrea Bargnani 1.9 7’0″

Oh, and Dirk? Well he only hits 0.7 threes per 40 min, but he takes an impressive amount from 16-23 feet for a scorer of his magnitude and height. Dirk attempts 42% of his total shots from 16-23 feet and a further 23% from 10-15 feet. Scoring consistently over 25ppg from that range is hard work.
