weekly warnings copy

The Weekly Warnings is a new feature to the site, where we recap the week that has been across the league. Here we highlight the most interesting tweet, story, image, video and stat line of the week, providing you with a snapshot of what you may have missed across the NBA.

Contributions are always welcome, so if you spot a sweet tweet, a crazy pic or an interesting article (even if you produced it yourself), feel free to contact me via email to share it with the masses. The Weekly Warnings are a regular Monday feature on A Stern Warning.

As the Boston Celtics have jumped out of the gates to a fine start to the season, the only distraction has been the ongoing “will-he -won’t-he?” contract status of Rajon Rondo. Finally yesterday Rondo was re-inked to a contract with the C’s.

Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports: Celtics give Rondon $55 million extension

League sources said the extension is for five years and guarantees Rondo at least $55 million. With the two sides facing a Monday deadline to get a deal done, Duffy said he called Celtics president Danny Ainge on Sunday to inform him Rondo was prepared to play out his contract and become a restricted free agent next summer because they weren’t satisfied with the team’s previous offers. Ainge, however, surprised Duffy by responding that Rondo’s contract hopes would be met.

“As much as we were willing to wait his contract out, the Celtics stepped up to the plate to meet the original request,” Duffy said by phone. “This is a really fair contract. We wanted him to be paid like one of the top five point guards around. It also allows the Celtics to maintain continuity to continue to be one of the best teams at this time.”

With the girth of fine pictures circulating the world wide interweb each week, it’s not always possible to narrow this category down to one. And hey, why should we? This week there were two that are too good to pass up.

Andrei Kirilenko’s awesome Boy Scout/Hollywood Film Bad Guy hair-do is an instant classic. When you combine that with a brutal forearm shiver from Ime Udoka to close out his time with the Blazers during pre-season play, you get this…

Twitter has proven itself to be a veritable treasure trove of delights, including this nasty Halloween costume that Scot Pollard (he of many hairstyles himself) suited up in. @PlanetPollard

Manu Ginobili is Batman. I should preface this video by saying that despite not being an animal rights activist, I really do feel for the bat — he didn’t deserve to be killed (and I don’t believe for a second that he wasn’t) — but clearly everyone in the stadium wanted the show to go on.

stats of the week copy

There were some huge statlines this week, including Brandon Jennings falling one rebound and one assist shy of a triple double on debut, but I thought I’d highlight a lesser heralded stat line:

Matt Barnes (ORL, F): 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 steals, 2 blocks.

Barnes got the starting nod in the midst of Rashard Lewis’ 10 game suspension and filled some categories that he normally is not expected to, during the Magic’s third win of the season, 125-116 over the Toronto Raptors.
