The NBA today announced the Rookie Challenge rosters for the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend, to be held in Los Angeles.

The game will be headlined by Tyreke Evans on the Sophomore team, battling against the all-conquering rookie Blake Griffin

The Rookie lineup should look something like this:

PG Eric Bledsloe
SG John Wall
SF Landry Fields
PF Blake Griffin
C DeMarcus Cousins
Bench: Derrick Favors (F), Wesley Johnson (G), Greg Monroe (C), Gary Neal (G).

Meanwhile the Sophs should look like this:

PG Stephen Curry
SG Tyreke Evans
SF Wesley Matthews
PF Taj Gibson
C Serge Ibaka
Bench: DeJuan Blair (F/C), DeMar DeRozan (G/F), Jrue Holiday (G), Brandon Jennings (G).

It will be interesting to see how the experience of DeJuan Blair, Taj Gibson and Serge Ibaka combines to attempt to tame the monstrous Blake Griffin. Meanwhile, John Wall‘s speed and athleticism will make for entertaining viewing against Tyreke Evans, Brandon Jennings and Stephen Curry of the Sophs.

Two dark horses to look out for in this game, outside of the big names: Wesley Matthews and DeMar DeRozan. Don’t be surprised to see these guys score big out on the break and really take over this game, irrespective of the bigger stars around them.

The Sophs should certainly be favourites in this game, but as always at All-Star Weekend, who really cares about the result?
